At the begging of the story we see that there are many harsh storms that hit their ship causing it to crack William Bradford further explains in the quote "... one of the main beams in the midship was bowed and cracked... there was a great iron screw the passengers brought out of Holland, which would raise the beam into place..."This is segnificant because they believe that God is what allowed them to survive and find the iron rod. Additionaly, another example can be found when many get sick, we also see half of their people die from these sicknesses in the quote"... that in two or three months time half of their company died... being infected with scurvy and other deceases which this long voyage and their inaccommodate condition had brought upon them... " The impact of the deaths is it allowed the survivors to believe they survived because God wanted them to.
